John Gard

John William Gard was born February 2nd, 1940 to John N. & Emogene C. (Hadley) Gard in Independence, Mo. He passed away on April 25th, 2010, what would have been he and his very recently deceased wife, Patsy's 35th wedding anniversary.

John is survived by 1 sister, Judee Leichter of Kansas City and 4 nephews, Mark, Mike, Kirk and Christopher John Phillips. John also has 4 children, Craig McMillan and Kim Handley of Ontario, Canada, and Editha Simmons and Ed Gentry of Springfield, Mo. He also had 3 grandchildren, James E Gentry IV of Wichita, Jon David Gentry of Willow Springs and Sarah Strecker of Battlefield, Mo, along with 3 great grandchildren.

John served 2 tours in Vietnam with the United States Army. He was a hard worker and an honest man. He enjoyed being an Auctioneer, going to the swap meet and enjoyed the life he chose. John could appreciate the simple things in life, like a brand new pair of socks, or taking the time to prank his grand kids. He made life fun for those he loved and enlightened the hearts of all he knew.

Although he survived the Vietnam war, the loss of his wife was apparently more than his heart could handle.

Please join his family for a celebration of John's life, even though he told us not to, at 12:30, Monday May 3rd 2010 with Reverend Tommy Loving officiating at Herman H Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E Walnut St. Military Honors will follow at 2:00 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. If you knew John, you know he loved his "animals". Memorial contributions can be made to Springfield Animal Advocacy Foundation, 1600 N Washington, Springfield, MO 65803.

No visitation is planned.

Online condolences can be shared at www.hhlohmeyer.com.

"A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two? Two thousand! And who'll make it three? Three thousand, once; three thousand, twice; and going, going and gone," said he.
