After a long and courageous bout with cancer. Joanne “Jodie” Watkins passed away on
Saturday, May 9 at Mercy Hospital. Born July 7, 1934 to Frank and Irene Young. Joanne
attended school in Springfield and graduated from Central High School in 1942.
Joanne met the man of her dreams Griff Watkins in Dayton, Ohio in 1976 and married him
on January 14, 1977. They were married for 38 years at the time of her passing.
Joanne was active in the Woodland Heights Neighborhood Association for many years serving as President and on the board for almost 15 years. Joanne was a craftswoman and also had a love for sewing and doll-making.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents. In addition to her husband Griff, she is survived by a brother Jack and his wife Dianne, her children Gwen Coffey (Frank), Todd Coffey (Suzanne), Cindy Pozsgai (Mark), and Tom Watkins (Cheryl), six grandchildren (Erin Coffey, Madeline Coffey, Gillian Coffey, Jena Pozsgai, Alicia Bunnell, Jonathan Pozsgai, Abigail Walkins, and Grace Watkins) and two great grandchildren (Madison & Brantley).
No immediate services are planned but a celebration of her life is being planned for her 81st birthday in July. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or the ASPCA.
