Jessie K. Baker Daniels, 85, Aurora, died Thursday, June 19, 2008 with family. Jessie was born January 27, 1923, the tenth child of eleven to Otis and Dora (Landers) Baker of Cassville, Missouri.
Jessie attended country school and was a graduate of Cassville High School, 1941. She moved to Pierce City, Mo. and was there from 1942 through 1945. She worked three years as a parts inspector for North American Bomber Plant in Kansas City, Mo. After meeting and writing letters to Alaska and Europe for about 2 1/2 years, during World War II, Jessie married Thomas J. Daniels of Pierce City, Mo. on September 25, 1944. They moved to Aurora, Mo. during the summer of 1946. Tommy worked for Wooten Drug Store. Jessie, a housewife and mother of two, Rodney and Kristy, was active in the Aurora Baptist Church. During the late 50's and early 60's, she sold World Book Encyclopedias and was a cook at the Aurora High School. During the Spring of 1964, Jessie started her 37-plus years profession with Children Services for the Lawrence County Family Service Office in Aurora, Mo. The remainder of her time, she spent with family and friends.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years; her parents; three sisters, Opal Bowen, Dorothy Williams, and Ruby Kappler; seven brothers, John, Lee, Olen, Benton, Clyde, George and Leonard Baker.
Jessie is survived by her son, Rodney and wife, Jena' Daniels, Bella Vista, Arkansas, and daughter, Kristy Short, Aurora, Mo.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Shauna, Craig, Ashton and Luke Morris, Ft. Worth, Texas, Shelly, Brian, Isaac, Micah and Leah Stephens, Pea Ridge, Arkansas, David, Brandi, Logan and Gabrielle Short, Bixby, Oklahoma, Kimberly and Chris Crawford, Tucson, Arizona; four step-grandsons and eleven step-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law of 73 years, Jean Baker, Mt. Vernon, Mo, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2008, 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Aurora, Mo. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the church, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Burial is in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora.
