Jerry R Dodson, 83, husband of the late Idonna Mc Millian Dodson of Springfield, MO, died in the early morning hours of Saturday May 11, 2019 at Mercy Hospital.

Jerry was born in St. Louis Missouri on December 21, 1935 to Marie (Cooley) Lavern and Ruth and Elmer Neff.

Jerry attended Central High School in Springfield, Mo. He joined the Marines at age 16 and served in the Korean War. When he returned to the United States he completed his high school education. Jerry worked in the building trades as a glazier for many years. After retiring from Builders Glass he managed Ozark Shooters Sports Complex and later became the Range Master at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, where he continued to work until his death. To say that Jerry was an avid outdoorsman is an understatement. He was happiest when he could share his love of the outdoors with his friends and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Less than two weeks ago, he was in his turkey blind.

Jerry is survived by his daughter Karyn and her partner Jeff Hays and Kimberly and her husband Scott Tairent; his grandchildren Kaylea Dees and husband David, Shelby Rupp and her husband Travis, Emily, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Tatum and Hannah; his great grandchildren Paisley, Logann, Keaton, Oliver and Charlie. Jerry is also survived by a sister Margaret and her husband John; sisters-in-law Janis Lavern, Shirley Lindsey and Pauline Eddington, many nieces, nephews and countless friends he loved like family.

In addition to his wife Idonna, he was predeceased by his beloved son Ricky, sister Barbara, brother Jim and brother-in-law Joe McMillian.

A visitation will be held Tuesday May 14 from 5 to 7 pm at Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E Walnut Springfield, Mo. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday May 15 at 1:00 pm at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S Southwood Rd, Springfield, MO with Chaplain Mitch Fisher officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
