Jerome was born April 6, 1932 in Dixon, Nebraska to Leo and Teresa Dougherty. He was a devout catholic since birth. He joined the army in 1952 and was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas and Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. It was during this time he met the love of his life Ima Jean. They were married in 1958.
He was a long time employee of the USPS as a letter carrier retiring in 2002. Jerry was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 676 in Springfield, Mo. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Springfield, and you would often see him working bingo at either place. He has been a member of St. Agnes Parish since moving to Springfield in 1960. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed sharing his talents with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Betty Rose; a brother Paul; his wife Ima Jean and a granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Overturf.
He is survived by daughter Teresa Drew & husband Lance, daughter Catherine Overturf & husband Wes; three grandsons, Chris Walker & wife Amber, Jason Walker & wife Melinda and Phil Overturf; and two great grandsons Zaiden Walker & Noah Francis Walker.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 31, 2014 in St. Agnes Cathedral with Fr. Tom McGann celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 30, 2014 in the funeral home.
