Jane Gibbons

Springfield – Jane Gibbons (nee Young), 82, of Springfield, MO passed away peacefully with her devoted husband Paul by her side on Tuesday, May 11th.

Jane was born on October 19, 1938, in Cadet, MO to Winfield and Genevieve (Schmidt) Young. She attended grade school and high school at St. Joachim, Old Mines, MO and graduated in 1957. Eventually, Jane moved to Fort-Worth, Texas, where she had a long career as a medical transcriptionist. She retired from Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center, Fort Worth, in 2011. Jane and her husband Paul have resided in Springfield, MO, for the last six years.

Jane was beloved in so many ways – as a wife, sister, aunt, friend, and co-worker. She was barely 5 feet tall but had the heart of a giant. She never met a stranger and quickly disarmed people with her humor and kindness. Jane was known for lending a helping hand to anyone in need, volunteering at Well of Life Food Pantry in Springfield, MO, spending time with family, or taking the occasional trip to the casino.

Jane had a devotion to Saint Therese who, like Jane, was small in stature and was stricken with tuberculosis in her early twenties. The rose, a symbol of Saint Therese “The Little Flower,” was special to Jane.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Tom Harvey; brothers, Frank, Tony, and Neil; sister, Magdalen Lamb; and sister-in-law, Joan.

Jane is survived by her husband, Paul Gibbons; a sister, Bernadette Boyer; a brother, Greg (Carole) Young; sisters-in-law Peggy Young and Judy Young; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 14, at 1 p.m. at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Old Mines, MO, with a mass immediately following at 2 p.m. Interment will follow the mass at Saint Joachim Cemetery in Old Mines under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, Springfield, MO.
