James Larue Starks, Sr. was born on January 29, 1961 to Wentworth “Bud” and Laura Starks in Bronx, New York. After a fierce battle with cancer, he departed life on July 27, 2021 in Springfield, MO.
James attended Boyd Elementary School, Pipkin Junior High School, and graduated from Central High School all in Springfield, MO. After graduation, James joined the U.S. Navy and gained so many experiences that held meaning to his life. The stories he told of the many countries he traveled would entertain for an entire day. After leaving the military, James worked for many years as a truck driver, here too gaining more life experiences he shared. His final occupation was a salesman, which he was successful at until leaving the workforce to battle cancer. He had a love for sports and would watch any and all sports for hours, with basketball being his favorite. As a child he played little league baseball where he obtained many lifelong friends. James loved the finer things in life, especially cars.
James was preceded in death by his Son, Jacob James Starks, his Mother Laura Starks, and his Father, Wentworth “Bud” Starks, a brother, JB Golden, a nephew, Tolando Fewell, a special uncle, James Simmons, cousin, Jacqueline Jewell Simmons Thomas, aunt, Jewell Simmons. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Amy Huddleston-Starks of the home; children Maurice Larue Starks, Dominique Larue Starks-Archibald, James Larue Starks II, Marika James Starks, and Ian James Marshall; Step-Children Lakeisha Armstrong, and Tyra, Tiana, Daniesha, and Danny Huddleston; Grandchildren, Cortez , Keili, Taziyah, JJ, Omarion, Korde, and Zariyah; siblings, Buddy Starks and wife Mitzi, Renne Starks-High and husband Markie, Tyrone Simmons, and David Simmons, sister-in-law, Patricia Golden, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street in Springfield, Missouri with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00am in the Herman H. Lohmeyer Chapel with Pastor L.P. Jamerson, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, 4500 S. Lone Pine in Springfield, Missouri.
