James S. "Jim" Sanders, 73 of Springfield passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 18, 2009 in his home.
Jim was born Jan. 23, 1936 in Birch Tree, Mo. to Manuel and Annabelle (Williams) Sanders. He served in the US Marines during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He loved playing the guitar and was very good at it, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed visiting friends at the bowling alleys. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donita Counts.
He is survived by his wife, Frances of the home; his four children, Nelia Southwick and her husband, Brad, Brett Sanders, Vicki Stenberg and her husband Rick, and Jamie Sanders; four grandchildren, Britain and Casandra Southwick, Kim Brown and her husband, Josh, Sarah Stenberg, and Crystal McDaniel and her husband, Matt; four great grandchildren, Tayler, Jennifer, Paris and Joshua; four siblings Opal Laird, Bill Sanders, Bob Sanders and Mary Robinson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. No visitation is planned. Online condolences can be shared at www.hhlohmeyer.com.
