James Magness

In the early morning hours of Monday, October 5th, James Michael Magness shed his earthly garments and began the journey to his promised Eternity.

A native of Crane, Jim was listed on his birth certificate as "one of a litter of two" by Doctor Al Capetti who delivered Jim and his twin brother, Jack, who arrived ten minutes later. Proud parents were DeWitt Talmage Magness and RayAnna Harris Magness.

Jim graduated from Crane High School and served as President of his Senior Class. He later attended SMS (MSU), the University of Tulsa and the Tulsa Police Academy. He studied piano during high school and received "one" ratings for his piano performances at State Music Contests. Jim was privileged to study piano during high school with Wilfred Adler who was Professor of Piano at SMS (MSU).

Jim had a successful career in sales which allowed him to live in many of the major cities in the U.S. He later worked for Public Service Company in Tulsa from which he retired.

When he returned to Springfield in 1991 to help care for his mother, Jim again established himself as a top notch salesman, setting national records for resort sales.

Jim attended the Crane Presbyterian Church in his youth and was christened and baptized there. He later became Catholic and during the last few months of his life he reaffirmed his faith by receiving the Sacraments of the Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his stepbrother, O. A. Dameron.

Jim is survived by his twin brother Jack, his older brother David, nephews Todd Magness and his wife Cat, Christopher Magness, Scott Magness and Michael Dameron and by a niece, Diane Dameron Jolly. Devoted friends Shari and Stan Crowell, John Horner and Paul Pope also survive.

It was Jim's wish that any memorials be made to C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue, 1328 West Sunshine, Building A, Springfield, Missouri 65807-2345.

The final resting place for Jim's remains will be in the family plot at Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, Missouri. Private services will be under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, Springfield, Missouri.
