James Kennedy

James “Jim” Kennedy, 84, Springfield, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014.

Jim was born May 22nd, 1929 in Plattsburg, Mo, he is survived by his wife Donna of 58 years, his son Matt and a granddaughter Hannah. Also surviving are his brother Art and one sister, Rose Mayer. Preceding him in death were his brother Michael and sisters Mary Catherin and Rita.

Jim was a first class Machinist mate in the Navy for four years and he had a stellar rating of a 4.0. He witnessed the testing of a Hydrogen bomb in the Marshall islands (Operation Ivy) and also crossed the Arctic circle during his service. He was a very devoted husband and father who loved his family very much. Most of his married life was spent as a trusted auto mechanic and a general fix-it kind of guy, who was respected by all who knew him. He had very strong Conservative beliefs which he shared with anyone who would listen and was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and lived his beliefs. He will be missed by many, but shortly before his death was quoted as saying “I am right with the lord and I want to go home.”

I love you Daddy!

Memorial graveside services with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday May 13, 2014 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
