Hulda Talty

Hulda E. Talty, 90, passed away March 5, 2009, at The Neighborhoods at Quail Creek in Springfield Missouri. She was born November 3, 1918 in Stotts City, Missouri to Edward and Martha Fieker. Hulda was salutatorian of the Class of 1936 at Pierce City High School. After High School she was employed by the State of Missouri in Jefferson City where she was proud to have worked on one of the first computer systems developed. She later transferred to the Mt. Vernon office where she met and married the only man she ever loved, a local dentist, Dr. Thomas N. Talty. The couple moved to Springfield where together they raised 7 children. Needless to say their home was always busy and full of excitement, practical jokes, and philosophical conversation about religion, politics, or science fiction.

In later years, Hulda enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, painting, and singing in the choir at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church. Hulda was a devout Christian who celebrated life; often speaking of her excitement at the thought of meeting her Savior. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, a fantastic cook, and a skilled artist. Many would describe her as a woman of understated elegance. She loved the outdoors and playing in various types of gardens. Hulda was one of few women who enjoyed cooking a 5 course meal for 20 people every Sunday and made it look easy! She was intelligent, fun loving, upbeat, and instilled a sense of wonder in her children and grandchildren. She was a gentle woman, who always listened and helped you recognize your strengths and self worth. No one can say enough about Hulda. She is and will always remain the true essence of a Lady. In her later years, despite the crippling effects of dementia and later Alzheimer's, Hulda remained a beautiful soul filled with love, joy, and spirituality. If you knew Hulda you were truly blessed.

She is survived by six of her children, Maureen Bittle and her husband Dale, Ozark, MO., Katherine Schiers and her husband Earnest, Victor, ID., Thomas Talty and his wife Beverly, Billings, MO., Brenda Woolsey and her husband Leonard, Littleton, CO., Becky Ota and husband Allan, Menlo Park, CA., Theresa Stone and husband Brad, Fernandina Beach, FL., 14 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Rev. Fred Fieker and wife Carolyn, Stotts City, MO., and a sister Elizabeth Brazeale and husband Bill, Springfield, MO. She is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Thomas N. Talty, daughter Patricia Ann Shaw; sisters Evelyn Fieker, Irma Fieker, and brothers Edwin Fieker, and Paul Fieker.

Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, on Tuesday March 10, 2009 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:15 a.m. with Msgr. Thomas Reidy, celebrant.
