Homer W. Gatewood, 77, Springfield, passed away January 31, 2007, in Springfield. He was born December 4, 1929, to Elmer and Pearl Gatewood. He attended high school in Columbus, Kansas, and graduated from Fireman's Fund Insurance School in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1951. On October 9, 1948, Homer married Frances I. Brown in Columbus, Kansas. Homer owned and operated Springfield Insurance Exchange Inc. for 42 years retiring in 1993. He was a past President of the Springfield Jaycees. Homer loved playing cards and bingo. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Homer's great sense of humor and love of people will be missed by everyone that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, along with his children and their spouses: sons, Eddie and Nancy, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Greg and Patricia, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Michelle and Doug Powell, of Foley, Alabama; daughter-in-law Patrica Gatewood, of Springfield; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Charles and wife, Joy, of Columbus, Kansas; and sister, Betty and husband, Bob Guy, of Columbus, Kansas.
