Helen (Belle) Day Thompson, 96, died in Springfield Missouri on September 6, 2010. She was born March 2, 1914 on the Big Spring farm in Franklin New Jersey. She was the last survivor of the 12 children of Charles Dewint Day and Leila Cooper Day.
After attending nursing school in Orange New Jersey, Helen was a registered intensive care and private duty nurse for many years.
Helen lived with her husband, Dr. Frank Thompson in Egypt and many states but always maintained her love of the mountains of Colorado where she also resided. She lived for many years in Muncie, Indiana near her daughter Leila before moving to Benicia California near her daughter Susan and most recently Springfield Missouri near her daughter Judie.
Helen is survived by her children, Cathey Thompson of Gulf Breeze FL, Susan Penney of Benicia CA, Judith Songer of Rogersville MO, Leila Plew of Columbia City IN, Raymond Thompson of Old Lyme CT, and Lora York, of Avalon CA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and 7 reat-great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Ann Thompson, 2 grandchildren, 2 husbands, 5 sisters, and 6 brothers.
Private memorial services will be planned at a later date.
