Gregory Dean MacLean 94, passed away on August 26, 2024
Greg was born on December 17, 1929 in Los Angeles California to Fred and Margaret MacLean. He grew up in a loving home with three siblings~ Joan Price, Audry Smith, and Martin MacLean. All preceded him in death.
He served in the US Navy on the USS Boxer. He then went on to receive a business degree from UCLA, where he was also on the rowing team. He worked for Lockheed as a logistics specialist in Burbank California. He created the first electronic system to let aviation companies know what parts were needed for fast turn around after incidents, accidents, and maintenance issues on commercial aircraft. This system was well received and adopted by the military of defense throughout Europe.
In 1956 he married Thursa June Hargus. Thursa also worked at Lockheed and they shared a love of aviation and travel throughout their marriage. They were fortunate to travel through Europe visiting representatives from Airbus and other companies all while having some amazing adventures. On one occasion the Luftwaffe hosted them at Oktoberfest in Munich. On another occasion they were at a casino in Monte Carlo when a group of Russians came behind their group to hear what they might be talking about. Quickly one of the Lockheed representatives broke into fluent Russian and the Russians fled. Greg and Thursa also enjoyed time on their sailboat The Amberjack in Marina del Rey.
In 1987 they adopted their daughter Rebecca. A few years later, after retiring they moved to Springfield Missouri.
Greg had a way with animals and they knew he was a safe space for them. He dearly loved the many strays that found their way to the house and became family, along with all the neighbor pets.
Greg had a deep Catholic faith that was a guiding force throughout his life. He took great joy in being a part of the church community. From bible study with Father Mike, to helping with the Chrism mass to Father Dave Hulshof popping in for a swim and a chat, to enjoying the rosary followed by mass each Sunday. His faith brought him great peace.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Thursa MacLean, daughter Rebecca MacLean, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be at 11 am Saturday Sept. 7, 2024 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Maple Park Cemetery under the care of Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Prior to the mass there will be a rosary service beginning at 9:45 am, with visitation to follow from 10 am until mass time in the church.
Rather than flowers any help you can offer to animals or children would be appreciated.
