Glenn Thomas

Glenn Thomas, 89, passed away early on the morning of December 8 after three weeks in the hospital and three weeks at The Maples.
He was born in Henley, MO on June 8, 1924 to the late Gus and Ethel (Bond) Thomas. After graduation from Eugene High School, he enlisted in the Navy. His ship, PCS1455, participated in many of the island invasions in the Pacific. Upon his return to MO, he attended and received a degree in education from Central Missouri State University. He was recalled to duty during the Korean Conflict, and then he started working on his Master’s degree at MU. Glenn became a teacher in the DOD schools in Germany. While teaching at the American School on the Rhine, he met his wife, Janet Clemens. They were married in the Cleves Presbyterian Church in Cleves, Ohio on August 10, 1963. They moved to Springfield where Glenn taught at Greenwood Lab School, SMS, for twenty years. He loved all sports and was active in many organizations, including York Rite Masons, Crosslines, Council of Churches, LIFT, Meals on Wheels, MRTA, SARTA, AARP, Phi Delta Kappa. He enjoyed music and sang in the Westminster Church Choir for almost 50 years. He was especially pleased to have been on the 13th Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. for World War II veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Jan, his sister Margaret Jenkins of Henley, Mo, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Romaine Pannabecker of Bluffton, Ohio, and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Interment will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.
