George Franklin Roberts passed away at home on May 17, 2013. He was born October 12, 1920, in Rocheport, Missouri to Earl and Okie Roberts. He spent most of his youth in Higbee, Missouri. Mr. Roberts served in the U.S. Civilian Conservation Corps and as a pilot in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. In 1947, he married Miss Norma Lee Myers of Moberly, Missouri. He came to Springfield in 1952 to work as a sales representative of Moore Business Forms, Inc. He was an avid bowler and golfer and a long-time member of Twin Oaks Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Fay Roberts, and his sister Mrs. Ann Pease.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Norma Roberts, son Mark Roberts (Diane) of Sperry, Ok, daughter, Debra McArthur (John) Kansas City, Mo, sister, Mrs. Dorothy King, of Cypress, Tx; grandsons, Shane Roberts (Cindy) of Fair Grove, Mo, Matthew Roberts (Amanda) of Evanston, Wy; Alan McArthur, of Kansas City; granddaughter April McArthur of Tumut, Australia; great grandson Cameron Roberts and great-granddaughter Sarah Roberts.
We are grateful for the care and support given to us by Oxford Hospice. George's wife and children express special thanks to his precious granddaughter April for the loving care she provided to George during his final weeks.
