Evon Armstead Gibbs Bankston (Eecho-B), 62, was called home to be with our Lord on October 12, 2021, after a battle with kidney disease.
Evon was born on October 23, 1958, to Ellis and Louise Armstead, in Richmond, Indiana. She was one of 13 children. She was raised by her parents and stepmother, Alice Armstead, all of whom preceded her in death.
Evon graduated from Richmond High School in 1977 and after moving to Missouri with Stanley Davis, her husband from a prior union, studied as a Certificated Medical Technician, where she served the elderly many years until her retirement.
Evon was a very dedicated Mother to Marsean Vondell Davis, who preceded her in death, Misty Yvonne Waters, and Micaha Danyhel Bryant until the very end of her life. They will always cherish and remember her exceptional and tireless devotion to their family.
At the age of 6, Evon accepted the Lord. Throughout her life, she shared the gospel as an evangelist through the Twin City Community choir in Festus, Mo, and as a pastor at Liberty New Testament Church in Springfield, Mo. She had a passion for the homeless and fed them at the VA and at Victory Mission in Springfield MO.
In 2010, Evon met Edwin Bankston and after a brief romantic courtship, they married on August 31 that year. She was a devoted wife who cared for her husband and in return, he dutifully cared for her throughout her illness.
Evon had the remarkable ability to encourage and inspire others as she shared her testimony, leading many to the Lord. She maintained a positive attitude throughout her illness and showed more concern for her husband and daughters than for herself.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin Bankston, daughters, Misty Yvonne Waters and Micaha Danyhel Bryant, and grandchildren, Jadyn Amaya Howard, Leon Donnell Waters III, Deja Moret and Mikyah Syrine Samuel, and Justice Giovanna Bryant; six sisters, Darlene Armstead, Delores Burden, Etta Matthews, Mary Stewart, Cynthia A. Walker, Robin Walker, and Etoya Buchanan.
Evon is now reunited with her former husband, Harry Gibbs and has rejoined her son.
She leaves behind a host of sisters, nieces, and nephews. She will be forever cherished in our hearts and dearly missed. We love you.
