Evelyn Millbern, age 93, went to heaven on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of eight children. She worked as a payroll clerk before meeting the love of her life, Charles, a young World War II Army soldier, while they were traveling on a train. They married and enjoyed nearly 65 years of devotion to each other and to family.
After living in Chicago for the first years of their marriage, they moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1953. She spent her years in Wichita as a homemaker raising four daughters, as a nurse assistant at a nursing home, and caring for her grandchildren. Their final move was to Springfield, Missouri in 1999 where they enjoyed being close to family.
She is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Wayne) Taylor, Cindy (Doug) Whitten, Dorothy Peters of Springfield, MO, and Pam (Mike) Malone of Wichita, KS; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Charles and grandson Dusty Lowe.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 15, 2019 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield, MO, with interment following at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Wesley United Methodist Church, Springfield, MO.
