Edward John Lutkewich went to be with the Lord on Thursday March 21, 2013, at his home in Fair Play, Mo after a long illness. Ed was born in Chicago, IL on March 27, 1941. His parents, Edward J. Lucas, Sr and Anna May Lucas (nee Kruder) preceded him death. His wife Iris, of the home, survives him, along with her children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Judy Orendorff and a nephew Joe Orendorff.
He spent a couple of years in college before entering the Coast Guard for four years during the Vietnam War. Upon leaving the military Ed began a long career as an entrepreneur, starting with sales and business ownership, including a restaurant in Ohio, and a Bed & Breakfast in Virginia. From 1981-2003 he worked as a CEO for four corporations in Ohio, Georgia, N. Carolina and Pennsylvania. He always said that being an entrepreneur was not for everyone because sometimes it was horse manure or whipped cream, and he really liked the whipped cream. One of Ed’s last business dealings was a contract with Wal-Mart for energy efficient buildings allowing Wal-Mart to open three weeks early and earn millions. Ed also raised race horses and Belted Galloway’s, Black Welsh Mountain Sheep and Tennessee Fainting Goats on his farm in Pennsylvania.
Ed was a world traveler, going around the world two times and to Europe six times. He saw the Seven Wonders of the World, walked the Great Wall of China and was the most impressed by the awesome architecture of the different cultures. When Ed and Iris married on Valentine’s Day of 2002 (Ed was an incurable romantic), they honeymooned in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and lastly Vienna, where they waltzed to the classic Viennese Waltz.
Ed and Iris moved to the Fair Play area in 2003 buying an old farm which they remodeled. They began attending Harvest Assembly and instantly fell in love with the community. Ed rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized, and became an avid scholar of the Word of God.
Upon being diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2006 Ed developed a recipe for an alternative flour for those who could not process gluten…He said that the recipe came straight from God and so he and Iris started a company, Domata Living Flour. They served the Lord with their company for five years, which they later sold in 2011, adding a great blessing to the church.
Ed’s desire was to bless the Lord with his business talents. While he was at Harvest Assembly he mentored several young ministries and their business ventures. He was a wealth of knowledge and had a quick humor and stressed integrity and honesty in all he set his hand to. He will be remembered by his many friends and peers for his witty business philosophies and his passion for life. He will best be remembered by his church family and friends for his loveable welcoming smile and his constant generosity because of his love for Harvest Assembly’s mission and his wonderful Lord and Savior. Ed will be greatly missed until we reunite with him in Heaven soon.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Harvest Assembly of God Church,
Fair Play, Missouri.
