Edgar John Miederhoff of Springfield, MO joined his savior Friday March 13, 2009, passing peacefully in his sleep. Edgar and his wife Mary, owned and operated the Black Kettle Restaurant in Springfield for 15 years. A locally owned breakfast landmark that served patrons from all walks of life biscuits and gravy and "ho-made" meals. Before he was a restauranteer, Ed was a district food supervisor for the Katz/Cranks company. Edgar was an independent spirit who enjoyed the company of family and friends. He enjoyed working on his tomato plants and had a great love of western films and novels. Ed enjoyed cooking, especially meats, working to achieve the perfect tenderness.
Edgar was born February 1, 1927 to John Joseph and Mary A. (Bosler) Miederhoff of Perryville, MO. He is preceeded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Odel Richardet and Frances Verlene Besand. His youngest son, Edwin John Jr. went to be with the Lord in 1983.
He is survived by Mary, his wife of 54 years, Ed leaned greatly on Mary and her abilities these past several years, also surviving are his children and their spouses; Rodney Miederhoff, Grace Bandeh, Robert and Frances Carol Beldsoe, Raymond and Carol Jean Miederhoff, and Virginia Shaw; his grandchildren, Jermiah, Nathaniel, Jamal, Elizabeth, Jason, Darren, Emily, Jon, Amber, Gus and Harlan Ray; his great grandchildren, Ashley, Madison and Amanda. Edgar also leaves behind his brother and wife, Leo and Ellinor Miederhoff, along with nieces and nephews in Perryville, MO.
Ed so enjoyed the time he and Mary owned the Black Kettle and the employees and patrons. To those who have thought fondly of Edgar through these past years, Mary and his family thank each of you.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday March 16, 2009 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home with prayer services starting at 7:00 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday March 17, 2009 in St. Agnes Cathedral with Msgr. Thomas E. Reidy, celebrant under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to St. Agnes Cathedral or the charity of choice.
