Dorsey Roe, Jr.

Dorsey Roe, Jr. peacefully passed away in his Springfield home at 3 p.m. on the afternoon of June 20, 2009 after a valiant struggle against lung cancer. He was 82 years old and surrounded by loved ones at the time of his death.

Mr. Roe was a veteran of the United States Navy who proudly attended the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. Dorsey enjoyed a successful career as an electrical engineer achieving positions of distinction in both business and government service, but his great loves were his family and tennis. He became a nationally ranked seniors player, as well as a teacher and mentor to many local players.

He is survived by his devoted wife Emelie, his former wife and good friend Marjorie Roe of Fort Collins, CO, six children; Deborah Kachel of Montclair, NJ, Cheryl Hogan of Reno, NV, Michael Roe of Antioch, CA, Kathy Strand, Robin Roe and Nancy Roe all of Fort Collins, CO and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Jaeger, of Jefferson City, and brothers Joseph L. Roe of Lamar, MO, David Lee Roe of Camdenton, MO and Roy Roe of Oregon City, OR.

Visitation will be held at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home on Tuesday evening June 23, 2009 from 5 � 7 p.m. with prayer services starting at 7 p.m. A funeral mass open to all of Dorsey's friends will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Cathedral with Fr. Mike McDevitt celebrant. Interment with military honors will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Versailles Cemetery, Versailles, MO.

Dorsey was a man of strong faith and high integrity whose memory will continue to inspire his large circle of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dorsey Roe Memorial Fund, c/o Commerce Bank, 1345 E. Battlefield, Springfield, Missouri 65807. Proceeds of the fund will be used create a memorial to Dorsey's life and legacy at a site yet to be determined.
