Donald Powell

Donald Gene Powell, born July 26, 1947, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Virginia and William F. Powell. He was the husband of Kathy Powell for 33 years.

Don was a veteran of the US Army from May 1964 to July 1967 and November 1968 to August 1971 as Sgt. Co E (Brg) 2nd Engr. Bn. 2D Inf. Div. with special honors for commendable service in the defense of freedom along the DMZ line in Korea, during the Viet Nam Era.

He was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Webb City high school and attended MSSC College in Joplin, MO, majoring in business. Don was employed by Big Lots Close-out Stores, Inc. He worked many years with Wal Mart Stores, Inc. and Michael's Arts and Crafts, Inc.

Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Robert Powell. Survivors include: his wife, Kathy; children, Genia Mount, Sharon Igou and spouse Chad, Alan Powell and Ryan Powell of the home; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Jim and Gladys Powell, Connie Grimes, Rose and Gene Puckett, Doug and Gloria Powell of Webb City, Steve and Margo Powell of Norfolk, Virginia, David Powell of Laverne, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Jared and Megan Mount. Extended family include Tracy Campbell and children; mother-in-law Imogene Elbert; brothers and sisters-in-law Barbara Testerman, Galen Elbert, Don Elbert, Carl and Wanda Elbert, Paul and Michelle Elbert, Mary Jane and John McBride, Janice Phillipus, and many special nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 2200 W. Republic Rd. with Msgr. Thomas Reidy, celebrant. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, in St. Mary's Cemetery, Seneca, Mo. under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut

Prayer services will be at 6:00 p.m. today (Friday) in the church with visitation to follow.
