Donald Lee Haun, born August 23, 1929, died on December 30, 2009 in Springfield, MO. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Haun, of the home, a daughter, Malissa Lokey and husband Tom of Pagosa Springs, CO, two sons, Larry Haun and wife Sally of Burleson, TX, Dwight Haun and wife Verna of Bolivar, MO and daughter-in-law Becky Haun of West Plains, MO.
Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, David Lokey, Micheal Haun, Tristan Haun, Heather Lokey, Kendall Haun, Mallory Haun, Aaron Lokey, Lora Combs, Ian Haun, Grant Haun, Melody Lokey and Barrett Haun, two great-grandchildren, Paytin Haun and Keili Combs. He is also survived by his sister, Maxine Pichelman of Edgerton, MO and brothers-in-law, Don McNeall of Springfield, MO and Denny Pearman of Keytesville, MO.
Donald was preceded in death by his son, Daryl Haun, his parents, Raymond and Violette Haun, one brother, Robert Haun and his sister, Mary Taylor.
Donald was raised in Fairfax, MO. As a child, he and his double cousin, Bud Burns, spent a lot of winter days ice skating on the Tarkio River. Donald served his country in the US Army from 1951-1953. He was a graduate of Counter Intelligence Corps School at Ft. Holabird. On August 6, 1954, Donald married Wilma Fern McNeall. He obtained his B.S. in agriculture and M.A. in Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. For 10 years he taught Vocational Agriculture at Braymer and Albany, MO. For 27 years he was an extension agent with the University of Missouri Extension Service. Following his retirement he worked as a security guard for various businesses in Kansas City and Springfield, MO.
In 1964, Donald professed his faith in Christ as his Lord and Savior. During his life, he served in numerous capacities in his church. He served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, R.A. leader and Church Training director. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Springfield, MO at the the time of his death.
Other than his great love for his family, Donald also loved photography. He enjoyed taking pictures of his family and nature. While working as an extension agent, Donald also taught and shared his love of photography with many 4-H students.
In 2001, Donald was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. He was active in the local Alzheimer's support group, participated in Memory Walks and a Memory In Making Art Class. He volunteered at the Grand Oaks Baptist Mission where he was treated with great respect despite the limitations of his disease.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Sunday, January 3, 2010 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield, MO. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 am Monday, January 4, 2010 at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the daycare building fund at Macedonia Baptist Church, 3110 W. Sunshine, Springfield, MO 65807.
