David L. Lay, M.D. age 59, of Springfield, Mo. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Sunday, March 6th, 2011.
A former resident of Heber Springs, Ark., Dr. Lay was the son of the late George D. and Sarah Chesbro Lay of Heber Springs, Ark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, one niece, and one nephew.
Dr. Lay was a graduate of the University of Arkansas Medical School in May of 1977 and won the U.S Navy Scholarship. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy and proudly served for eleven years.
Dr. Lay ran his own medical practice in Heber Springs, Ark. for eleven years before moving to Springfield, Mo. in 1993. He has been a physician in the Springfield area for the last eighteen years. Nine and a half of those years were spent caring for the Veterans at the Gene Taylor Outpatient Clinic of the Veterans Administration in Mount Vernon, Mo. He considered caring for his veteran patients as a great honor and considered them a part of his extended family.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol of 24 years, two daughters, Savannah and Cheryl of Springfield, and many other loving relatives, friends, patients and colleagues.
A memorial service for Dr. Lay will be held in Springfield at a later date.
