D. Gibbs

Marie Gibbs of Springfield passed through the gates of pearl into heaven on January 3, 2020, where she was greeted by her Savior.

Born Dolly Marie (Williams) on November 6, 1930 in Eureka, Missouri to Wesley Winfield and Ruby Florence (Olney) Williams and was the third of the Williams’ five children. Spending her younger years in Eureka, Eldon and the St Louis areas she was known to be a bit of a tomboy but quickly grew into a young woman who had great fashion sense and liked flashy cars. She graduated from Eldon in 1948. Having been raised in a family of faith, Marie met her husband, M. Paul Gibbs, at the Valley Park Assembly of God church where she spent many. They spent many years as a Sunday School teacher. During their 50+ years of marriage, Marie and Paul journeyed from California to Texas to Florida and finally settled back in Missouri in the mid 1960s. Along her journey came Pokey, Candy, Dusty, Spooky and Tag her beloved four legged children who were always by her side waiting for her to give them a treat.

Marie’s green thumb was known for cultivating beautiful gardens in her homes in St Louis, Belle, Lake of the Ozarks and Springfield. One of her favorite things to do was lounging on the back porch and watching her favored cardinals, both the bird and baseball. She never knew a stranger and by the end of her life her heart was full of memories of dear friends near and far.

All of her family knew Marie to be a prayer warrior with her worn Bible full of written prayer requests for others.

Marie left behind her younger sister, Brenda (Curt) Ballard of Springfield, Missouri and sister-in-law Leola “Suz” Aker of Wildwood, Missouri. Marie’s cherished family member by choice, Melinda (Mojo) Meljo, of Springfield, Missouri, who brought her love and laughter for over forty years. She leaves a gaggle of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who loved her hearty laugh, quick wit and the jars of cookies always on her kitchen cabinet.

A Memorial Service for Marie will be held on Saturday, January 18th, at 2 pm. with visitation starting at 1 p.m. at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street in Springfield, Missouri. She will be interred next to her husband at Springfield National Cemetery in a private service.
