Curtis Ray Harper III was born on May 10, 1949 and passed away from this life May 13, 2024 in Springfield Missouri after a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife Lisa Shelly (Schmidt) Harper, his parents Curtis Ray Harper II and Laura Belle (Umphres) Harper, his 3 sisters, Kay Harper Jorden, Linda Ann Harper, and Laura Mae Harper. He is survived by his stepchildren Beth Robins and husband Mitch, Ben Wensel and wife Allison, and his grandchildren Jack, Rachel and Bethany. He also leaves behind close friends, Janell Manley and Kenny and Lynne Kimbrel, the guys in the “breakfast club”, as well as an abundance of long-time friends, colleagues and acquaintances.
Curt never met a stranger. He had a joke for every story and a story for every joke. He never forgot a punchline and was telling jokes until the last week of his life. Curt was a jewel in every category you could think of. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was up for any adventure, especially if it involved his convertible.
Curt was a proud Navy veteran serving 18 months on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam war. He worked in the stainless-steel industry as a customer service representative and retired after many years of service from Central States Industrial in Springfield Missouri. Those who worked with Curt could not help but admire his attitude, easy-going demeanor, and willingness to share his knowledge.
Curt loved and cherished his relationship with God which provided comfort for him throughout his life. He will be missed greatly. All that knew Curt was better off for having him as part of their life.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday May 18, 2024, at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cathedral, 533 S. Jefferson Ave. Springfield Missouri, with a private burial in the future.
