Colby Scott Houston, passed away on April 8, 2024, in his hometown of Springfield, Missouri. He was born to Dave and Teresa Houston on January 7, 1994, in the same city that he would call home for the entirety of his life.
Colby was a graduate of Kickapoo High School, class of 2012. His career as a contracted construction worker allowed him to network with so many people. With his knowledge, and his height, he was always our handyman. With his best friend Jake (Gatten), there was always something to work on or some fun to be had.
Colby’s brother, Brett (Mackenzie) Houston, remembers him as a man of many hobbies. He was a shoulder to lean on, had a contagious laugh, and always knew when you needed to talk. Colby and Brett would spend so much time together watching hockey games, quoting movies and making memories to last a lifetime. There was never a dull moment between the two.
Colby’s love of sports included baseball and hockey. Yet, he was always watching whatever was on. He was able to make so many friends through the hockey community. He loved hanging out with the guys. Colby loved to hang out at the lake. Whether it was a boat ride, a fishing trip or being the sole person in charge of the paddle boats, he was an outdoors man through and through. He loved to camp, and made sure that every Fourth of July he was the person setting up the tent, because if he didn’t do it, it wasn’t done right.
His hearty laugh and generous spirit extended beyond his family. Colby was known by so many. His friends around the world knew the light that he brought into this world.
Preceded in death by his father, Dave, and many close loved ones, Colby leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. He is survived by his Mother, Teresa; his brother, Brett (Mackenzie); his cherished grandparents, Bernie and Linda (Grubaugh); and many of his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services to honor Colby’s life will be held on April 12, 2024, from 5-8 pm at the Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E Walnut, Springfield, MO 65806.
Colby’s presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to be a beacon of warmth and joy for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
