Charlotte Ann Thompson Ballew passed away at her home on July 27, 2022 after a battle with cancer and Artery Disease.
To say she was a fighter, is an understatement, after many surgeries and her right leg having to be amputated, she soldiered on. It would be hard to find a more determined, tougher woman than Charlotte.
September 11, 1944, Charlotte was born to Eugene and Marguerite Messly Thompson, in Springfield Missouri where she resided all of her life and was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1962.
She is survived by her husband Jack Ballew, daughter Karri and her husband Mike Vaught of Texas, a stepdaughter Shana and her husband Lance Stehling of Springfield MO, and stepdaughter Adaire and her husband Leonid Kotlyar in New York.
Charlotte retired after many years working as a Certified Professional Secretary at the Brotherhood Maintenance of Way.
Starting at a young age Charlotte became an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan while listening to them on the radio, later TV and at the stadium. She also supported the Springfield Cardinals attending many a game cheering them on.
During her retirement she was an avid traveler, hiking and touring her way through many places and countries, such as Hawaii, England, Ireland, Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria. She also became an aerobic exercise fanatic that spanned for 30 years, working out at numerous heath clubs in Springfield. Her doctors credit her active lifestyle helping to prolong her life, considering all the medical issues she encountered.
Charlotte loved history and was a Civil War enthusiast, volunteering and working several reenactments and patrolled for many years at the Wilsons Creek trail.
Later in life she joined a red hat club, La Purr, enjoying the friends she made and becoming queen of the group.
Charlotte was a one of kind, packing in several lifetimes during her 77 years, she loved and was loved by many and will be missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am Friday, August 5, 2022 at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street in Springfield, Missouri. Burial will follow at Noon, Friday, August 5, 2022 in Springfield National Cemetery, 1702 E. Seminole Street in Springfield, Missouri.
