Charles Lindsey

Charles Rexford (Rex) Lindsey went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 19, 2020 in his home after a 14 year battle with Multiple System Atrophy. Rex was born January 23, 1946 in Springfield, MO to Charles and Alpha (Carter) Lindsey. He was raised in Louisburg, MO and attended high school in Buffalo where his 1964 basketball team won the state championship; he was awfully proud of that. He attended 2 years of college and then began his long career with Hiland Dairy. He started as a “hot shot” driver for the dairy and worked his way up to the accounting department and eventually became the office manager for many years. In total he was at Hiland for 33 years. He then “retired” from Hiland to pursue a career in insurance sales. Rex was a people person and quite literally never met a stranger. He could meet a person and within minutes be friends and know that person’s story. He loved helping people, and sales was the perfect position for him.

Rex met Margaret, the love of his life, in 1967. They dated for a short time (love at first sight!) and were married later that year. This year was their 53rd anniversary. Rex and Margaret were members of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He served the church on nearly every committee that existed including positions as Lay Leader; Lay Leader to the Annual Methodist Conference; Chair of the Finance, Pastor-Parish Relations, Administrative Council; and was a leader on the first Visitation and Hospitality teams. For 25 years he led the Disciple Bible Study classes which were in-depth, studies of the entire Bible. Rex was passionate about the church, its history, and its teachings. He truly loved spreading the Word of God. Among his many accomplishments, he was proud of founding the Nixa Optimist Club.

Rex loved to have fun and was always a kid at heart. He loved golf (please note his hole-in-one at Fremont Hills Country Club, his double eagle at Kiva Dunes and his Long Drive award!) boating, water skiing, fishing, and traveling with the family. Rex was a loving, devoted father and husband and a master vacationer. He loved playing Bridge or Pinochle with family and friends, and his love of golf became contagious and spread to Margaret, Nicole, and Rob. Rex was a St. Louis Cardinals super-fan. He attended many games with the family, collected baseball cards, and rarely missed a televised game.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his children Nicole Schenkelberg (Dave) and Rob; brother Roy (Betty); niece Megan Rowe (Jeff) and great-niece Ellie; nephews Doug and Dan (Susie).
Funeral services will be at 11 am Tuesday, November 24 at Wesley United Methodist Church 922 W. Republic Road with Reverend Michael McIntyre officiating under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. The service will also be live streamed via the Church’s Facebook page.
