Charlene Altic

Today we have come together to honor the life and memory of Charlene Altic.
The third of six children, Charlene was born March 21, 1938 in Morrisville, Missouri to Orville and Stata Altic.
Charlene spent the majority of her life here in Springfield surrounded by her family and friends. She left us on August 3, 2012. She was proceeded in death by both parents, her brothers Kenneth and Lester Altic and most recently, her beloved sister, Helen Garrison.
Charlene is survived by her sisters Shirley Huey and Sharon Sue Clemens, sister-in-law Evelene Altic and a host of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. She was particularly close to her great nieces, Erin, Amber and Faith.
Charlene was deeply devoted to her family. She loved spending time with her sisters. The Altic girls had a one of a kind relationship and would spend many weekends together pursuing one of their favorite pastimes, going to garage sales. In their younger days, Charlene and her sisters would take road trips together. One memorable trip took the sisters to Chicago because they wanted to see Lake Michigan. Somehow, the sisters never did find one of the biggest lakes in the nation! Even if they would get lost, they would make a full and adventurous day of it and usually ended their journey with a picnic featuring one of Charlene’s favorite lunches of bologna sandwiches and chips.
Charlene’s love of life was quite evident. She had a talent for making people laugh and the joy she expressed whenever a new baby was born in the family was well known.
She also had a love of purses, shoes, perfume and dogs. Charlene’s love of dogs was especially strong when you watched her interaction with her dog Toodles, who passed away last year, and the current fellow in her life, her beloved dog, Baby Boy.
Charlene’s caring nature was strong throughout her entire life. She was a person who devoted her working years caring for others. She began her career at Foster’s Nursing Home before moving to Greenhaven Nursing Home where she remained for 13 years. She finished her career working in the Alzheimer’s Unit at the Gardens. She was well liked by both her patients and co-workers.
Charlene’s willingness to help and love for others continued in her later years as a member of West Atlantic Street Baptist Church. It is important to note that Charlene’s final act of generosity was that of an organ donor.
Charlene will live on in the hearts and memories of her family and friends.
