On June 9th, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., Carl J. Leavitt of Springfield, MO went to be with the Lord and soar with the eagles. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his friends and family.
Carl was born on January 17th, 1945 to Lorretta (Tabor) Leavitt and Jack Haskell Leavitt in Willard, MO. During his life, Carl enjoyed time with his family and working on cars and computers. He was known as a "Jack of all trades". He was an active member with The Gate of the Temple Lodge #422 and Abu Ben Adhem Shrine Temple. He participated in Yaban and Go-Carters. He was a cook for the Shrine Bingo for 4 years. He was proud to sponsor 3 children to receive treatment at Shriners Hospital for Children.
Carl married Gaynelle Nichols Snider on December 31, 1989 at Fair Grove Methodist Church.
Carl leaves behind his wife Gaynelle of Springfield, MO, an uncle and aunt, Bob and Violet Leavitt of Springfield, Mo.; brother Mike Leavitt and sister-in-law Laurie of Clinton, OK, son Charles and Lori Leavitt, Amarillo, TX, 3 daughters Jackie and JD Nunez and Theresa Leavitt and Emillo Lopez, both of Amarillo, TX and Erica Coffin of Springfield, MO, 3 nephews Donald Browning and wife Betty of Halltown, MO, Daniel Browning and wife Jennifer of Moberly, MO, and Deric Leavitt of San Angelo, TX, 4 neices Donna and husband Chris Thornton of Kansas City, MO, Lisa and John Bentley of Mount Vernon, MO, Mikala Leavitt of Dallas, TX and Haley Benedetti of Amarillo, TX, close family friend Brenda Emberton of Springfield, MO, 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-nephews, and great-neices. He was preceeded in death by his mother and father, 2 sisters Linda Leavitt and Joetta Wiggin, 2 sons Rickey and Darrell Leavitt, a niece Debra Tummons, and a grandson Brandon Leavitt.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Donna Turner of Oxford Hospice for her love and support, and for being there for the family when it was needed.
In lieu of services and flowers, Carl requested that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Abou Ben Adhem Temple, 601 St. Louis Street, Springfield, MO 65806.
