Bernard J. Mandl, 78, died August 14, 2020 quietly in his sleep. He was with his wife Judy of 60 years, and two sons, at home in his beloved Mark Twain Forest. He is survived by his loving wife, four children, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was known sweetly as “Papa.”
Bernie was born into the large family of Richard and Fern Mandl. Together they had 9 children and lived in a large home in Kansas City, Mo where many family memories were made among uncles, cousins, and aunts during the holiday seasons. Three of Bernie’s siblings are still alive: Lou, Mary, and Barbara. They hold the earliest of stories in this family home.
It has often been said that Bernie was liked by every person he met. He carried the soul of his early Catholic roots and together he and his wife were members of Queen of all Saints Catholic Church in Springfield, Mo where Bernie sang in the choir with a baritone voice.
Bernie could build nearly anything he set his mind on and in his lifetime built two homes. This talent set an example of dedication, perseverance and focus that along with hard work, bears fruitful in the end. He gave so much love and as a result, took much with him. We are deeply grieved in this announcement and honored to have had him for our father and earliest model. We are immensely grateful for our mother’s choice.
We would like to invite anyone who would like to attend the service in honor of our father and husband Friday, August 21, 2020 to Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut St. Springfield, MO at 5-7 PM for visitation.
Saturday, August 22, 2020 services at 11:00 AM Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, in Springfield, MO. We will hold his last Mass, then drive to Resurrection Cemetery for his burial and blessing.
Come Holy Ghost, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them fire of Thy love.
Send forth Thy spirit, and they shall be created.
And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray. –O God, Who hast taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the
Holy Ghost, grant that by the gift of the same Spirit we may be always truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
