Barbara Joan Hill, age 89, of Springfield, Missouri passed away at Mercy Villa on Saturday, March 14, 2015 after living a long life filled with the love of family and friends. Barbara was born February 21, 1926 to Paul and Theresa O’Riley in Ohio. She married Elston H. Hill April 24, 1954 and together they raised six children in Ridgewood, N.J.
Barbara worked for the telephone company for thirty years before retiring to Mountain Home Arkansas in 1981. In 1993, after moving to Springfield, Barbara volunteered for Birthright and St. Vincent de Paul. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of Pachyderms.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her brothers Paul and Larry O’Riley and her son, Brian Hill. Her husband of 60 years, Elston H. Hill survives her as do five children, Doris (Doug) Hicks of Rehobeth, Delaware, Betsy (Dave) Schoeller of Ames, Iowa, Maryellen Boberg (Bruce Corse), of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Luke (Waltraud) Hill of Carthage, Missouri, , Margaret (Ron) Milkas of Waycross, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Hill of Flemington New Jersey; sisters Maxine Hoffman, Virjean Brooks , Pat McDonald; 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 in the chapel at Mercy Villa, 1100 East Montclair St. Springfield, Missouri with Father Tom Kiefer and Ron Milkas, deacon officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time in Mercy Villa Chapel. Entombment will follow in White Chapel Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
