August J. (Gus) Litteken, 84, of Springfield, MO, died Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
Gus was born December 17, 1930, at Avison, Illinois, to August and Mary (Von Laur) Litteken.
On April 4, 1959, he married Shirley Heideman in St. Francis Church, Aviston, Illinois.
Gus was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 0676 and Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Aviston grade and high school in 1948, Parks Air College of St. Louis University in 1953. He spent two years in England as a B-29 bomber and a C-119 transport pilot.
Gus moved his family to Springfield in 1974. He owned and operated Welhener Awning Company until his retirement in 1994.
Gus was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Steve, Ermalinda (Linda), Ralph, Edgar, Orville, Evelyn, Lavergn.
Gus is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Deborah Sue Litteken, and her partner, Jon Wessel, of Springfield, Mo; daughter, Theresa Catherine Weber, and her husband, Kevin, of Claremore, OK; daughter, Dawn Marie Dake, and her husband, Chris, of Rogersville, MO. He is also survived by three grandchildren, three sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Rosary at 6:00 p.m. with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, at Immaculate Conception Church, 3555 South Fremont. Funeral mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday, August 13, at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Tom Kiefer celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
