Arthur Walker

Arthur Walker was born September 13, 1939 in Kansas City, Mo. and died at 2 a.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009 in Apple Ridge Care Center Waverly, Mo.

Arthur was a recognized and beloved downtown personality for at least 40 years before health issues reduced his ability to walk from place to place and "visit." He assisted the Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home, the Catholic Center, the Christian Foundation, St. Agnes Cathedral, and others doing what used to be called odd jobs. Arthur loved to be of service to others, and had an awareness and respect for those in public service � law enforcement and fire protection in particular. He was also a presence at downtown area churches, and had personal friendships with each of the bishops of the Catholic Diocese over the years. Monsignor John Westhues, ("Father Senior" to Arthur) was one of his most respected friends.

Arthur had a great gift for prayer and a great faith that his prayers would be answered. He somehow always knew the needs of the people around him as well as around the nation, and was always willing to ask God to fill the needs of those people.

Many of Arthur's close friends pre-deceased him, but there are many more in the downtown area who will remember him and hopefully take on the giving spirit he embodied.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2009 in St. Agnes Cathedral with The Most Reverend John J. Leibrecht celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the funeral mass in the church.
