Alicia Trujillo

Alicia E Trujillo, 84, departed this world on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 1:30 AM, in Woodland Manor, Springfield, Missouri. She left us because she, "was tired and wanted to sleep," and it was her time to go home.

Alicia was born on February 14, 1926 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, to her parents Eugenio and Evelia Trujillo, and was the second of three children. She married Roberto Polanco and together they had one daughter. Alicia's education was non-traditional, having attended a German school, contracting private teachers, and received mentoring from her uncle to become an accountant. In 1958, she divorced and made arrangements to move to the USA with her daughter. After a few adventures she landed in Los Angeles, CA and made it her permanent home. Alicia never remarried, although her family was important to her, and she devoted herself to being the best mother she could be to her daughter.

Alicia always remembered her native Guatemala and would occasionally return to visit her family and friends. She had an interest in the Arts. Her grandfather was a Concert Pianist, and she derived from him a love for the piano, which would develop into a love for classical music, opera, and ballet. She was a very social person and enjoyed many activities with her daughter. In her later years when she became a grandmother she lived for her grandchildren and daughter. She loved her son-in-law, Tony, and was very happy that her daughter was in a good marriage. While in Los Angeles, she worked professionally as a bookkeeper at Bank of America and Humble Oil Co.

Until her final days she did things "her way," and was described by people at her residence as feisty and kind. Alicia had Alzheimer's but never really knew it, and felt joy when she would do or say something that made people laugh, and would say, "at least I made you laugh."

She is survived by her daughter, Alice Retana, and her son in law, Pablo Retana (Tony), her grandson, Mark Retana, her grandson Phillip Retana and his significant other Colleen Smith, her nieces and nephews Carmen, Miguel, Eugenia, Roberto, Alejandra and Oscar Trujillo, and her grand nephews, Rodolfo Robles and Juan Silva.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugenio and Evelia Trujillo, her two brothers, Miguel and Oscar Trujillo and her nephew, Minor Trujillo.

Alicia's memorial mass will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010 at Saint Agnes Cathedral, 533 S. Jefferson, Springfield, Missouri at 1:00 PM. Her burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Springfield, MO

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield MO

Her daughter and family would like to extend a special thank you to all the angels at Woodland Manor that cared for her and made her feel so loved, to Sister Barbara and Father Mike at Saint Agnes, and to all their supportive friends and family.

Remember my life with your smiles, not your tears, and measure my life by my friends, not my years, my life on this planet was near perfect indeed. God's grace was sufficient. He met every need, my family, so faithful, so loyal, such love. I see now your source was from God above. My new home is awesome, no tears and no sorrow. We've transcended time here, our reunions tomorrow. For now you see dimly, but soon face to face, His love is so pure here, His wonder and grace. You'll feel so at home, you'll never say never, our families united, we'll be peaceful forever. So remember my life with your smiles, not your tears and measure my life by God's grace, not my years.
