Alexander "Jake" Jacobs, 81, Springfield, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2007 in Christian Health Care East.
He was born August 24, 1926 in Springfield, Missouri to Alexander A. and Magdalene (Oberst) Jacobs. He served in the Army in World War II as a Tech Sargeant in the Seventh Cavalry. He was married to Eddy Booth on January 26, 1952. Jake worked for Frisco Railroad for over 57 years and coached many childrens baseball, basketball, and softball teams through the years. He was an avid tennis player.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Angeline. He is survived by his wife, Eddy; two children, J. Michael Jacobs and wife, Nell of Columbus, Ohio, and Patrick C. Jacobs of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Jeannine, Mary, Janice, Joey, Suzanne, Steven, Patrick R. and his wife Dee Dee, Kelly M. Jacobs, and Allison Bernskoetter and husband Mykl; two great-grandchildren, Daisy and Abbey; and a sister, Mary Ann Bingle of Vancouver, Washington.
Memorial Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2007 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Fergus Monaghan, celebrant, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut. Committal services with military honors and Elk's Memorial Service will follow at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery. No visitation is planned.
