Alan Chilton

Alan Paul Chilton, age 64, passed away on Saturday July 10, 2021.

He was born Nov. 6, 1956 in Jefferson City, Missouri to Leon and Fay (Sutton) Chilton.

He attended the schools in Camdenton, Missouri and went on to study at Mizzou for a time. He married Donna Plummer on Sept. 26, 1987. Their daughter Alexandra was born a few years later.

Alan worked with the National Park service for many years. Starting in the late 80’s as a volunteer/seasonal worker at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield and Petrified Forest. His first full time posting was at Fort Scott National Park where he was a museum technician. His tenure there lasted for over a decade before he moved back to Wilson’s Creek. While at Wilson’s creek he contributed to the finding of rare artifacts and tracing the history of them. He was also quite proud his research work at Wilson’s Creek led to him becoming a published author.

Everyone who knew him knew he was a lover of history; many may not know that he owned more history books than the local library. He always had a book and a hat to take with him no matter where he went. Alan also loved getting to spend time with his train club, and frequently said “we get to play with the big trains.” His many hobbies included stamp collecting and tinkering with watches. He enthusiastically embraced the digital age and even had his own Gameboy. He developed his love of fly fishing with his dad and brothers at a young age and they frequently brought home dinner. His influence reached many people, and he will be deeply missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Fay. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his daughter, Alexandra; his brothers Stephen, Michael, and Keith Chilton, and his sister Jeanette (Chilton) Mastin.

A private for family only memorial service will be held at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home with Reverend Steve George officiating. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would appreciate your prayers but request no visitors to their home at this time.
