Obituary for Catherine Mary Quintus (Quintus)

Catherine Mary Quintus (Quintus)
Catherine (Katie) Mary Quintus August 26, 1933 – May 23, 2014
Catherine was born in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. She was the middle child of Peter and Mary Ann (Wetzstein) Quintus. Catherine’s childhood was spent in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After attending Thomas Jefferson High School, she entered the Benedictine convent in Yankton, South Dakota for 18 months. She then returned home and went to work in a department store in Omaha, Nebraska.
She enrolled in nursing school and became a L.P.N. for seven years at which time she went back to school and became a Registered Nurse. Her mother suffered a severe stroke in 1962. Katie cared for her until her death in 1975. In 1975 she moved with her father to Springfield, Missouri. Katie took care of her father until he became ill in 1990. When she arrived in Springfield, she went to work for CoxHealth. She worked as a RN at Cox North for the next 24 years.
She was diagnosed with terminal cancer in the late 70’s, and by grace, officially became a cancer survivor. She loved to travel and saw much of the world. She visited Switzerland, Germany, France, Yugoslavia, England, Austria, Italy, Rome, Scotland, Greece, Russia and Argentina.
Katie had a deep faith. She made Cursillo for women in 1967. She was consecrated in the Third Order of Franciscans and then in the Society of St. Francis De Sales 1978. She made and donated many hundreds of Rosarys in her lifetime, continuing this ministry into the final weeks of her life.
Katie’s health didn’t allow her to live alone in her final years. She moved to Oklahoma and lived with her brother and sister-in-law, James and Kathleen. Her cancer returned and she was ill for a few weeks before going to our Lord.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Kathleen Quintus, her sister Sister Mary Petra of the Carmelite order and her nieces and nephews, Theresa Mann, James G. Quintus and Marilyn Wessner.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday May 30, 2014 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Msgr. Thomas Reidy celebrant. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Rosary services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday May 29, 2014 with visitation to follow in the funeral home.
