Obituary for Roberta "Robbie" J. Johnson (Johnson)

Roberta “Robbie” Johnson, a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2018. She was 63 years old.

At the time of her death, Robbie had lived with multiple sclerosis for 20 years. She faced that disease with humor, grace, and sometimes a bit of denial. She did not let her condition get the best of her spirit in later years and so Robbie traveled to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Niagara Falls, spent a summer in Provincetown, MA, and, of course, went to see her beloved St. Louis Cardinals. She was a great teacher, softball player and coach, friend and sister. She was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame for her part in the 1974 Southwest Missouri State women’s team that won the College World Softball Championship. If asked, however, she would always say her greatest accomplishment was raising her son, Christopher Johnson.

She is survived by her son Chris, his wife Sophia Haeri and their daughter Ava, who brought much joy to Robbie’s life in the last 14 months. Also left to carry on is her extended family of Diane, Nan, Christopher’s mother Linda, Sandy, Fran and Tim. Robbie’s Facebook friends and phone pals are too numerous to mention, but her family knows she had a special place in her heart for Harriet, Carol, Gail and Bob, Brenda, and the softball “girls” of her youth.

Special thanks to Robbie’s caregivers and dear friends at Magnolia Square and Ozark Riverview Manor.

Memorial Services will be at Herman H. Lohmeyer’s Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield, Missouri on Saturday, April 28, at 3:00 p.m.
