Obituary for Larry Lee Cook Sr.

Larry Lee  Cook Sr.
Larry Lee Cook, Sr., age 80, of Strafford, Missouri passed away on Monday morning, May 28, 2018 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri.

He was born July 29, 1937 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Herbert Lee Cook and Moseline Ashworth Cook.

Larry served his country during the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict as an E5 Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp for a total of 13 years.

On January 1, 1984 he married Sandra Mae Sitzes at the Green County Courthouse in Springfield, Missouri.

He drove a truck for Milky-way Transport prior to retirement.

Larry’s hobbies and interests were wood working, leather working, photography, and competitive and recreational shooting. He was an avid gun collector and anything on his honey do list for his wife that needed completed. He enjoyed tinkering with his 1966 GMC pickup.

Larry loved being with his family and his two furry companions, Jack and Sugar.
He was a true friend who spent a lot of time riding motorcycles and enjoying their company with a hot McDonalds cup of coffee. He had a big heart and a wicked sense of humor.

He was a hardworking, “tough as nails” Marine who loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, God and Country with all his heart.

He was proceeded in death by his mother, Moseline Ashworth Mikesell.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Cook; his son, Daniel Cook and his wife Nicole Cook; his daughter, Shanna Smith; his grandchildren, Haley Lurten, Charlie Smith, and Tyler Swickheimer.

Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00am Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield, Missouri.

Funeral services will follow at 10:00am in the Herman H. Lohmeyer Chapel with Mr. Leslie Sitzes officiating. Full Military Honors will be held at the graveside service. Burial will be at Danforth Cemetery in Strafford, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Vernon Veteran’s Home, 1600 S. Hickory Street, Mt. Vernon, Missouri 65712.
