Obituary for Marcia Joann Wissbaum

Marcia Joann Wissbaum
Marcia was born February 7, 1936, the youngest child of Edward and Joy Miller, of Conway, MO.

She graduated Burge School of Nursing in 1957, and married George Wissbaum, also of Conway, that same year. They happily celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November 2017. Together they raised four children, Mark, Julie, LuAnn, and Roger.

Marcia worked for 30+ years as a labor and delivery nurse, helping thousands of families bring children into this world, work which she fulfilled with love and compassion, and which garnered her the everlasting respect of her peers and all of the families she assisted. Even after retirement, rather than be idle she gave her time and vast expertise to the cause of early childhood development through the Parents As Teachers program and once again excelled, to the surprise of no one who knew her, again leaving behind a legacy of love, learning, and betterment.

Marcia also loved music, played the piano by ear, sang with gusto, and entertained all who knew her with an unbridled talent and limitless wit.

Marcia died on February 7, 2018, her 82nd birthday, and was preceded in death by her parents, as well as brothers Ralph and Louis, and sisters Rosemary, Lois, and Ruth. She is survived by her husband and children.

She was a strong proponent of education, whether it be through schooling or through the simple pursuit of knowledge, and so wished that any donations made in her memory be directed to the Conway Memorial Library, PO Box 100, Conway, MO.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, February 12, 2018 at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut St., Springfield, MO. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2200 W. Republic Rd., Springfield, MO. with Msgr. Thomas Reidy, celebrant.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Rd., Springfield, MO.
