Obituary for Evelyn Juanita Barber (Jones)

Born March 14, 1937, to Jack and Fern Jones (Smith), Evelyn Juanita Barber passed away January 2, 2018, after a long and arduous struggle against the combined ravages of COPD and dementia.

Juanita (as she was known to all those who loved her) married Jim Barber on Christmas Eve, 1956. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2006, and remained devoted to each other until Jim's untimely passing in 2007. Though she never worked in a job outside the home, she worked hard to provide a loving home for her husband and 3 children; Jimmie, Rose, and Ed.

Juanita is survived by her 3 children & their spouses-- Jim Barber and Kathi Woodward, Rose Barber and Geoff Hefner, and Ed Barber and Sylvia Barber. She cherished her 4 grandchildren-- Alice Barber, Colton Barber, Sam Barber, and Ethan Barber. Her siblings Charles Jones, Bud Jones, Becky Thompson, and Jerry Bumgarner & his wife Janet also survive her, as do many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and both her parents, her sister, Dorothy Ray, also predeceased Juanita.

So many people will miss Juanita. She remains in our hearts, and the memories of past times shared with her will bring laughter-- even as tears mist over our eyes. She'll be there whenever we smell peanut butter cookies coming out of the oven, or hear a George Jones (or Patsy Cline) tune on the radio. She'll be wherever daffodils bloom in the warm sunshine of spring (her favorite season.)

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut, Springfield, MO.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, in the Herman H. Lohmeyer Chapel. Burial will follow at Maple Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Juanita's name to C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue, 1328 West Sunshine St., Springfield, MO. 65807
