Obituary for Ray Franklin Burk

Mr. Ray Franklin Burk, of Springfield, MO, peacefully passed away in his home on December 7, 2017 at the age of 79.

Ray was born to parents Roy Burk and Marie Pearl Conrad on September 3, 1938 in Springfield, MO. He, along with his two sisters, grew up in southern Missouri where he attended West Plains High School “until he got smarter than his teachers” and decided to join the United States Navy. He proudly served in the Navy from 1956 until 1964, attaining the rank of Electricians Mate 2nd Class. Ray was a loving and proud father of two sons. He was very mechanically inclined and could build or repair just about anything; an ability that he put to good use while employed as a maintenance technician at several companies throughout his career. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed being a part-time farmer raising beef cattle. Later in life you could find him scratching off a bingo lottery ticket or watching his favorite game show Family Feud.

Ray is survived by his sons Jeff Burk and wife Rene of Fairfax, VA; Steve Burk and his wife Melisa of Springfield, MO; his sister, Shirley Brotherton of West Plains, MO; and one step-grandchild, Blake Haley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Marie, and his sister Vera Collins.

In keeping with the wishes of Ray there will be no funeral services. His final resting place will be at the Springfield Veterans Cemetery located at 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO 65804.
