Obituary for Angelita "Mollie" Gapasin

Angelita "Mollie"  Gapasin
Angelita (Mollie) 79, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 18, 2017 surrounded by her devoted husband and three children.

Mollie was born on November 21, 1937 in Bulacan, Philippines. She is the daughter of the late Romeo Carlos and Petra Mateo Carlos, as one of seven children. Mollie graduated from Philippine Women’s University, Metro Manila in 1962 with a B.S. in Nutrition.

Mollie met her husband, Ernesto M. Gapasin, M.D. (Ernie) in Cotobato City, Philippines while working as a dietitian for Cotobato Provincial Hospital. Mollie and Ernie married on December 16, 1964 before immigrating to the U.S. for Ernie’s medical residency.

While residing in New York, Mollie worked as a dietitian at Metropolitan Hospital, Beth Israel and Bellevue Hospital from 1965 - 1972. Mollie and Ernie moved to Lebanon, MO in 1972 with her two children, Jennifer and Kenneth, where Ernie practiced as a General Surgeon for thirty-two years. Mollie’s youngest son, Ernesto, Jr. (Jun-Jun) was born in 1973. In 2004 they moved to Springfield, Missouri where Ernie worked for the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons - Medical Center.

Mollie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ernie; her three children Jennifer Yguico (Carlos), Kenneth, and Ernesto, Jr. (Tamara); and her grandchildren, Ellie and Eva Yguico, Emma, Joshua, Elijah and Ella Gapasin; and her sister Lilian C. Bullag.

Visitation, Friday, September 22, 2017, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary/Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 2200 W. Republic Road, Springfield, Missouri.

Funeral Mass, Saturday, September 23, 2017, 10:00 a.m., St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 4677 W. Division Street, Springfield, Missouri .

Memorial contributions in Mollie’s memory may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
