Obituary for L. Diane Ames (Atchley)

Diane Atchley Ames, born December 3, 1940 to Louis and Lois Atchley. She left us January 24, 2017. She was preceded in death by both parents, and an infant sister.

Diane was married to J. R. Ames on July 1, 1981. They were best friends, soul mates, and had 35 wonderful years together. They loved to travel. They went to every one of the states. She loved doing high intensity things. She was a deputy sheriff, had a pilot’s license, drove a tank, and loved her guns. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do. She loved playing bridge. She always said no one could die on a bridge day. She was so energetic, stubborn, and always said what was on her mind. She is going to be missed by so many people.

Diane is survived by her husband, J. R. Ames, of Springfield; seven children, Kendra Mahan, of Waynesville, Mo.; Katie Griffin and husband, Paul of Lebanon, Mo., Greg Ames and wife, Nancy of Wichita, Ks, Rick Ames and wife, Lacey of Rogersville, Mo., Cindy English and husband, Mark of Switzerland, Fl., Matt Ames and wife, Chris of Chanute, Ks., and Kevin Eastburn of Phillipsburg, Mo.; many grandkids and great-grandkids.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Ozark, with Fr. Scott Sunnenberg , celebrant, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut, Springfield, Mo. Lunch will be provided after the service at the church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday Jan. 27, 2017 in the funeral home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
