Obituary for Irene Anne Otradovec (Ruzicka)

Irene Anne Otradovec (Ruzicka)
Irene Anne Otradovec

Our loving mother and grandmother went to the Lord on February 8, 2016 after a long illness.

Irene Ann Ruzicka was born the ninth child of James and Magdalena Ruzicka of Pleasant Hope, Missouri on June 5, 1928.

Irene was an accomplished seamstress and worked during WWII in that field. She married Edward Otradovec on September 22, 1948 at St. Wenceslaus in Karlin, Missouri. Eddie and Irene made their home in Springfield, Missouri, rearing five children and working together in the building and contracting business. They built custom homes and docks over the following 50 years in the Springfield and Table Rock-Kimberling City area.

Irene’s husband, Eddie, preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by her five children: Jane Gaetze of Sioux Falls, SD, Teresa Driver of Springfield, MO, Victoria Peurifoy of Springfield, MO, Kathleen Dixon, of St. Louis, MO, and Jim Otradovec of Springfield, MO. She has 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her 8 siblings; she is survived by her brother John’s wife (and Eddie’s sister), Mary Frances Otradovec Ruzicka.

During their 60 years of marriage, Eddie and Irene enjoyed square dancing, gardening and traveling. They particularly loved to fish in the early morning at Table Rock and to spend time with their family.

She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She loved practicing her Catholic faith and became a great example of married life to all who knew her. Irene’s Czech heritage was exemplified through her hospitality at family gatherings.

Funeral Mass will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2818 East Bennett, Springfield, Missouri, 65804 at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016 with Rev. Fergus Monahan and Monsignor Thomas Reidy concelebrating. Burial will follow at Karlin cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri.

Visitation will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Kitchen, 1630 N. Jefferson, Springfield, MO, 65803. Permanent online condolences, stories and photos may be shared at www.hhlohmeyer.com.
