Obituary for Tom Thomas

Tom Thomas, 68, formerly of Springfield, passed away Monday December 28th in The Villages, Florida where he has resided since 2011.
Originally from Caruthersville, MO., Tom moved to Springfield in 1970 where he started working for State Farm Insurance before he and his brother Terry started Thomas Brothers Office Furnishings in 1974. Today the business continues to be run by his brother, as well as by two of Tom's nephews, Justin & Kyle.
Tom was raised an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan for which he made sure that his three kids were raised the same way. He would also be proud that his three grandchildren continue that loyalty of cheering for the Cardinals. In addition to baseball, being from the bootheel of Missouri, Tom loved some good Southeast Missouri style bb-q and listening to the blues. He also enjoyed very much playing golf while living in The Villages where he accomplished 2 hole-in-ones.

Tom was extremely proud of his three children, Lonnie, Jack, & Marianne. He had such a strong impact on their lives and nothing else made him more proud then to be known as their dad and nothing made them more proud then for him to be known as their dad.

Tom is survived by his wife Lori of The Villages, his son Lonnie Wade of Springfield, son Jack and his wife Jamie of Pittsburgh, PA and Tom's daughter Marianne of Denver. Tom is also survived by 3 grandchildren that knew him as Papa Tom. Annali and Gabriel of Pittsburgh and Finnegan of Denver. He is also survived by his brother Terry and his wife Peggy of Springfield and his 4 nephews Justin, Kyle, Griffin of Springfield and Reid of Denver. In addition to his immediate family, Tom is also survived by his step-daughter & step-son Samantha & Alexander Kelly & mother-in-law Donna Vallance.

Memorial Service for Tom will be held Saturday January 9th at The Downtown Church of Springfield with family receiving friends of Tom at 10 AM and memorial service to follow at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in memory of Tom to the Alzheimer's Association. The family of Tom is extremely grateful for the generosity in the local arrangements being done by Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home of Springfield as well as from the staff and pastor of The Downtown Church, Brian Mattson and the Rev. Lori F. Lampert for their incredible help and guidance in helping us the family create a lasting memory of Tom.
