Sandra J. Martin, 72, of Nixa, Missouri, formerly of Troy, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28th, 2015 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri.

She was born December 30th, 1942 in Troy, New York to Augusta A. Ostrom and Francis J. Gleason. She attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy where she received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and BOCES where she received her license and certificate to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Before moving to Missouri she was employed by Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York. She was a substitute teacher for the Springfield Catholic School System as well as a Eucharistic Minister and Religious Education Instructor at St. Agnes Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking, playing and cuddling with her beagle Bailey, watching the hummingbirds and cardinals (Mr. & Mrs. C) visit her yard, but above all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husbands Paul R. Hussey and Richard D. Whitman, two grandchildren, and her precious beagle Angel.

She is survived by her husband Loren D. Martin of Nixa, MO, her children Edward D. Hussey of Springfield, MO, Christine A. Whitman Martin (Kevin) of Nixa, MO and Nancy K. Whitman Suriano Cutter of Quincy, MA, her grandchildren Erin Hussey (Rodrigo Calderon) and Colin Hussey (Xianan Sun), SSgt Timothy Martin USAF (Sarah) and MMFA (SU) Kyle Martin USN, and Todd Suriano, Jr., Alexandra Suriano VanDevender (Nate) and Maeve Cutter, and her great-grandchildren Liam and Logan Calderon, William Hussey, and Bentley Martin. She is also survived by her siblings Charles Baker (Carol) of Spanish Springs, NV, Patricia Cerniglia (the late Alan) of Troy, NY and Christine Burridge (the late Rick) of Scotia, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 with the Rosary being read from 7:30 to 8:00 PM at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut, Springfield, MO.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 1st, 2015 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Springfield, MO.

We would like to thank Dr. Rachelene Middleton and staff of Mercy Physicians, Dr. Ethan Hoerschgen and the staffs of Springfield Nephrology Associates and Fresinius Medical Centers in Springfield, MO, and most recently the staff of 6B and the Hospice staff on 7D at Mercy Hospital for the care given to mom. We would also like to thank Dr. Albert Leonardo, Jr. and Vanessa of Mercy Inpatient Hospice for the care and compassion given to all of us and making sure mom was comfortable in her final days with us.
