Obituary for Salvacion Pura Nicomedes (Pura)

Salvacion Pura Nicomedes, lovingly known to those close to her as Salvi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at home surrounded by her daughter Jaina, son-in-law, Michael Kroft, and grandsons, Cody Allan and Joshua Aaron, after battling cancer.

Salvi was born on December 15, 1943 in Sorsogon, Philippines and raised with her 13 brothers and sisters by her parents Placedo and Estelita Pura.

Shy and quiet, Salvi worked as a maid and after coming to the United States in 1999, she worked at the Springfield News-Leader for 11 years. She was a hard worker. An avid gardener and fisherman, she passed this love on to her family. A week before she passed, she realized a dream by becoming an American citizen.

Salvi is survived by daughters, Jaina Kroft (Michael) and Marites Nicomedes; son, Gerardo Fulgueras (Beth); grandsons, Garald, Glenn, Cody and Joshua; granddaughters, Genelyn, Glenda, Gea, Lexie Mae and Mariel; and great grandchildren, Nixon and Gwen.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 18, 2015 in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Denis Dougherty, O.S.B. celebrant under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday July 17, 2015 in the funeral home.

Burial of Salviā€™s cremains will be at a later date in the Philippines.
